Rope shortening and splice renewing of the carrying-hauling rope of the Línea Plateada Cable Car

System type:
MONOCABLE
Location:
La Paz, Bolivia
Service Category:
Maintenance and Assembly of Cable Transport Systems

When steel ropes are installed, they begin to undergo a normal process called elongation. This is because the weight of the rope and the loads of the cabins during operation generate a gradual elongation in the different cables that make up each system. This makes it necessary to carry out processes that allow the rope to be tensioned before it loses too much tension.

In the carrying-hauling ropes, when de cable car’s tension system is already at its tension limit, it is necessary to carry out a shoretening and splice renewal process, thus guaranteeing the extension of the useful life of the rope and ensuring the safety of the transported users.

This process was carried out on the Línea Plateada in La Paz, Bolivia, where a process was carried out that included the coordination of a multidisciplinary group in charge of planning and executing the different activities involved in the Shortening, including cable retention, tension release, calculation of the length to be shortened, rope cutting and execution of the new splice.

This service was carried out by a certified specialist in splicing steel ropes for cable transport systems, with extensive experience and track record in the work and under the guidelines of European regulations, successfully completing the project within the estimated time for this activity.
