Maintenance and Assembly of Cable Transport Systems

The city of Medellín was a pioneer in the implementation of Aerial Cable Transport Systems for urban mass transport purposes with the construction of Línea K of the Metro de Medellin Company, a process that was later successfully replicated in different cities around the world.

Currently, the Metro Medellín has 5 urban cable car lines and 1 cable car line for tourist purposes, where the maintenance of the different lines becomes a challenge due to the short time available to carry out maintenance activities.

INTECKNO has carried out the corresponding maintenance activities on electromechanical platforms, line components and stations of the different lines that are part of the Medellín Metro, which includes different activities:

  • Corrective maintenance through the repair of bearing houses of the cabin traction system in stations.
  • Modifying maintenance through the repowering of cabin traction systems to operate with 4-channel pulleys, ensuring system availability.
  • Structural maintenance through torque and adjustment of mechanical connections in pylons, electromechanical platforms and station decks.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance in pneumatic networks of electromechanical platforms and stations.
  • Diagnosis, preventive maintenance and certification of anchor points in compression pylons.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance on the noise barriers installed at the San Javier station on Linea J.
  • Adaptation and implementation of lifting systems on pylons with a capacity of up to 200 kg to facilitate maintenance.
  • Renewal and comprehensive maintenance of high-voltage cable protection meshes.
  • Modifying maintenance through the adaptation and updating of the compressed air network in garages and electromechanical platforms, including the relocation of the compressors inside the electromechanical platforms.
  • Systematic maintenance and replacement of retaining bolts of the cab traction system bearing housing in stations, transfer motor bearings and assist motors.
  • Design, manufacture and installation of a force measurement system for cabin door closing.
  • Modifying maintenance on metal and wooden structural components that make up the electromechanical platforms of the different systems.
  • Corrective and preventive maintenance of cabin stabilization guides at station entrances and exits and material replacement in the station's surrounding guidance area.
  • Adaptation and modification maintenance to cabin lifts in cabin maintenance areas, which included the design, manufacture and installation of these components in the garages of the different lines.
  • Design and implementation of the metal structure and components that make up the expansion of the maintenance area at El Progreso station, Linea P.
